Uva Ursi
Beneficial in treatment of spleen, liver, pancreas, and small intestine disorders. Can act as a diuretic, helpful for kidney infections, diabetes, prostate problems, bladder disorders, and strengthens the heart muscle.
Also called Bearberry
Studies have revealed that Valerian is safe as an alternative to prescription sleeping pills and tranquilizers. Helpful for pain, nerves, muscle spasms, helps sleep and tranquility, can act as sedative, reduces stress and nervousness,  improves circulation, helps irritable bowel syndrome, menstrual cramps, and ulcers.
Valerian is best used in its water-soluble extract form.
White Oak Bark
Acts as an antiseptic and is good for: burns, skin wounds, poison ivy, bee stings, nosebleeds, diarrhea, varicose veins, teeth.
Wild Yam
Contains properties similar to the progesterone hormone, helps female disorders, premenstrual syndrome and menopause-related symptoms. Beneficial for hypoglycemia, gallbladder problems, kidney stones, relaxes muscle spasms, reduces inflammation, and promotes perspiration.
Yam-based products are sometimes extracted from plants that have been treated with pesticides/fertilizers. Check on the history of the cleansing and processing of the raw material of the product that you choose.
Beneficial for headaches, toothaches, backaches, nerve pain, injuries and generally relieves most pain.
Willow can interfere with the absorption of iron and other minerals when ingested internally.
Has properties similar to aspirin and can help to relieve inflammation and pain. Good for arthritis, rheumatic symptoms, muscle pain, headaches, and toothaches.
Wintergreen  oil is used as a flavoring and in some fragrances.
When used topically, has healing and astringent properties. Also reduces itching and good for skin care, hemorrhoids and phlebitis
Do not use Witchhazel internally.
Relaxes muscles, beneficial for cardiovascular disorders, stimulates the heart and good for neuritis and hyperactivity.
Also called Betony.
Beneficial for migraines, lowers fever, increases stomach acidity, acts as a mild sedative, useful for vascular disorders, expels worms, and good for intestinal parasites.
Black Walnut is sometimes used in combination with Wormwood to remove parasites.
Do not use Wormwood during pregnancy. It can cause spontaneous abortion.
Wormwood can be habit-forming. Do not use continually.
Useful for circulation to skin, reduces inflammation, improves blood clotting, has healing properties for mucous membranes, increases perspiration, useful as a diuretic. Helps fever, viral infections, colitis, bleeding problems, and inflammatory disorders.
Also is called Soldier's Herb.
Yarrow interferes with the absorption of iron and minerals.
Yellow Dock
Improves liver and colon functions, cleanses and purifies blood and the body's entire system. Beneficial for anemia, liver disorders, skin problems, eczema, hives, rashes, psoriasis.
Also called Sad Dock or Curled Dock.
When Yellow Dock is combined with Sarsaparilla, the tea can be used for chronic skin problems.
Yerba Maté
Has been known to enhance the healing properties of other herbs, stimulates the mind, controls the appetite, fights aging, blood cleanser, stimulates cortisone production and beneficial for the nervous system. Also helps allergies, constipation, and inflammatory bowel disorders.
Also called Maté, South American Holly, and Paraguay Tea.
Stimulates hormones, can increase libido and blood flow to erectile tissue and has been known to increase testosterone levels.
Also called Yohimbe Bark Is sometimes available as a prescription, as well as in health food stores.
Yohimbe has been known to cause panic attacks, anxiety, and hallucinations in some people. Can also elevate blood pressure, heart rate, and cause headaches, dizziness, and skin flushing.
Women should not take Yohimbe.
Yohimbe should not be used by people with psychological disorders or kidney disease.
Used as a natural cortisone, and for joint pain, inflammation, and blood purifier. Has been known to have anti-stress properties and help digestion, as well as arthritis and osteoporosis.
Yucca is sometimes added to shampoos.
